I love photographing wrestling. The facial expressions, the muscles, the poses, the emotion – it’s all there. It’s not easy to capture. I pretty much stay in the same place throughout the match and depending upon where I am – I might capture the wrestler’s face, or I may not. No face means no photo no matter how good the rest of it is.
I covered a match last Thursday. They turned all the lights off in the gym except for one overhead light. That made for challenging photography. I shot almost 2,000 images that I culled down to a little over 100. I got a couple that I have earmarked for competition. One of them is similar to this one.
Did I say I love photographing wrestling?
Continuing storm coverage …
I never thought I’d be thankful for sleet, but I am. Because it was cold close to the ground, the precipitation that fell turned to sleet rather than freezing rain. We still have power. I am so so so grateful.
We lost power for three or four days during Hurricane Helene and that was traumatic enough. The major concern then was keeping the freezers going which we did with a generator that we’d had for years but never used. We used it then and it did the trick. Now, the freezers aren’t a concern – keeping the humans and animals warm is. Hoping some fool doesn’t go out four-wheeling and take a power pool down.
Local stores sold hundreds of generators before the storm. I expect a lot of people filled them with gas – likely filled from new gas containers and never used them. I suppose it’s better to be prepared than not. We still have 10 buckets of water in the spare bathroom which I’ll start to use this morning. I’m sure the animals will appreciate warm water this morning. They’ll really appreciate it tomorrow with the forecast temperature being 6 degrees. It normally doesn’t get that cold here in North Carolina.
Before long, it’ll be 90 degrees and I’ll be miserable with that.
Meanwhile, in the Monk Manual, the first thing I’m thankful for is getting out of bed. Every day that I get out of bed is a good thing.
Until later …
