Back through the ages

This image was part of my graduating portfolio when I was in photography school at Catawba Valley Community College. It was taken in 2015 with a Nikon D90 which is ancient technology compared to what’s available now.

While I got a good grade on the portfolio – a B – it wasn’t an A. Each graduating portfolio was reviewed by a set of judges with their comments recorded on a DVD. To this day I haven’t listened to their comments. . I remember one of the errors as noted by the instructor was a lack of tone – they said the images were flat. I can see now they are. That was likely a combination of the camera (even then a Nikon D90 was an old camera), my skill in editing and processing of the image.

With the editing skills that I have now I expect I could do better. I should see if I still have the raw file and try. I do like the image and think it has potential.

I went back to this farm a few years later with a newer camera, a Nikon D750 to try to capture these peacocks, but they had been stolen.

It’s a wonder I do competitions now. I sent off six images for IOM competition and four for MIR. Here’s to several weeks of anticipation knowing with all certainly they won’t medal (IOM) or receive merit (MIR).

Until later …
