Posting every day

Maybe on Bench

I had originally planned to make a blog post every day. Then I was told that was a big task – I agree, but it is, I believe, an important one. The person who dissuaded me from doing it is not me.

I wrote earlier about auditing my time. This is something that’s going quite well for me. It helps me to not feel so stressed at the end of the day thinking my day was a “lost day.” Granted, no day you’re alive is a lost day – but if I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished anything, I feel like I lost something.

At the beginning of the day I make an entry in my Monk Manual – tasking out my day and what I’d like to get done. It doesn’t always happen – but it helps me mentally to see what I’ve done throughout the day. Yesterday I intended to do more things than I was able to. Instead, I focused on work – getting all my things done so that I can get some layout done today. Wally and I also did storm prep – which we’ve been doing all week now.

There is a major ice storm forecast coming in tonight and extending into all day on Sunday. They’ve forecast more than an inch of ice. That’ll cripple this region. We will loose power. It’s going to be really, really cold – Tuesday morning is forecast to be 10 degrees. If we don’t have power, we don’t have heat or water. That’s hard enough for humans, but for livestock it’s really hard.

We went through it with Hurricane Helene – which was rough. We were without power for three or four days. We had water from the rain and rain barrels – something we can’t use in this storm because they’ll be frozen. We had a generator – that we’ve had for years and never used! Thanks to a great neighbor we got it running and used it to help keep our freezers frozen. We won’t need to worry about that for this storm.

Without power I have no computer or wireless access. I can use cell phone data but that isn’t going to be enough to do my job. All I can do is get done what’s available to me and then it’s out of my control.

About the image posted above – that’s Maybe and it was taken during my first dog photo shoot. I wish I could re-create it now knowing what I know but that may not happen. Oh well.

So here’s a blog post.

Until later …
